2019 Winter Concert

Our Winter concert is December 10 at 6:30 PM, call time is 5:30 (help setup, get in place and warm up the band). The concert will be at The Columbia Presbyterian Community (700 DaVega Dr, Lexington, SC 29073). If you are unfamiliar with the location here is a summary: at the end of DaVega Dr, circle around to park in the lot near the water fountain and enter building there. When you come in the building, take the first hall to the left, then go all the way down and turn right into the dinning area. Please allow ample time for traffic, it can be heavy that time of day on HWY378/I-20. Dress is all back and white.

Lights of Lugoff Parade

From Rochelle Doty, Director of the Palmetto Home School Band would like to invite anyone interested to join them to participate in the Lights of Lugoff Parade.  Here is her message:

Portions of the Palmetto Home School Band will be participating in the Lights of Lugoff Parade on December 14th. It is a night time parade in Lugoff lit up by Christmas lights. We would be gathering around 4pm to get organized into the parade line, the parade starts at 6:30.

As you guys know, this is outside of the band’s normal comfort zone and it’s something we are excited about. For us, it will be relatively low key. We are having some Christmas music arranged for us and we will play it on the back of a trailer pulled by a truck. Kind of like the hay-ride version of band. The music will be easy and fun. The music will be “flex scored” which means there will be a part for kids who just started this year as well as more challenging parts for kids who have been playing longer.

We are planning to have 1 or 2 extra rehearsals to practice the music. Those dates aren’t nailed down yet and will be subject to availability of kids and parents and the facilities that we use for practice. We will be wearing Christmas clothes and if you’d like to decorate your instrument or yourself in battery powered lights or sequins etc that would be fantastic. They can be found inexpensively on Amazon and other places.

We would really love for anyone who would like to be included to play along with us! I know some of you guys already have friends in the Palmetto band and it would be great to have some more friendly faces join us.

If you are interested in participating and would like to hear more, please email rochelle.doty@gmail.com

Thanks, looking forward to hearing from you guys.

Welcome Back!

Summer is winding down, and Home school band is gearing up! I trust everyone had a good summer and is looking forward to a new year of band. We have a few dates to announce and a few other changes to note.

IMPORTANT, RETURNING AUDITIONS AND NEW STUDENT MEETING – September 5, 2019. POSTPONED. Due to several closings in the area, we will not be able to use the facilities at FBC this week. We are moving the Pre-Band and welcome meeting to next Tuesday, Sept 10

September 10, 2019. Each year we schedule a day prior to band for new and returning students to come and meet with the directors. Returning students (and students with prior playing experience) will also play for one of the directors to determine proper placement in the band. Students with no prior playing experience will be given an opportunity to speak with a director about their interest in starting a new instrument.

FEES AND FUNDRAISING. If you are paying for the whole year up front, band will be $250 for the year. If you wish to make the 8 installments, it is $35 per payment. Insurance is now becoming a must to honor the requirements set by our host facility. We want to make an attempt to offset this additional cost with fundraising or similar to avoid raising band fees. Please share any ideas or good (as in pleasant) experiences with a previous fundraiser you think we could consider.

PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING. To better plan for the Sept 10 meeting and auditions and to get an idea of the members we will have for the coming year, please respond as soon as possible with your intention for this coming year and meeting on the 10th. You can also respond through the Remind App, join our group here remind.com/join/midlandsh.

Parking and Entrance Info for Band
