Who?
Homeschool band students from all over the Southeast. We will have two ensembles again this year: concert band (students with 1-2 complete years of in-struction) and the honor band (students with 3 or more complete years of instruction)

What?
Honor Band Festival experience for homeschool band students

Why?
This event will be a chance to unite other homeschool band stu-dents in our love for mak-ing music. Often our groups are small but when we combine togeth-er we will have a much more satisfying musical experience.

What to wear?
During the rehearsals you may wear “normal” clothes. The temperature in the rehearsal area is often cool. You might bring a light jacket if you are cold natured. For the concert, please choose something that is “dressy casual”. Ladies please choose a modest dress or skirt of appropriate length. You will be on an elevated plat-form. Guys please choose slacks and a collared shirt (golf or button up will be fine)

REGISTRATION
The cost is $15.00 per person. Additional students from the same family will be $12.50 each. You may pay the registration fee and money for meals (if you choose that option) from this link.

Schedule Update

Greetings!

Welcome back to band!  We have a new and exciting year of making music planned for you!  Please be patient as we tweak our schedule to maximize instruction for every band member!  We are fortunate to have a wonderful new home for our ensemble at First Baptist Church.  We have storage, rehearsal space, and room for individual instruction!

Due to time and schedule restraints set by our location the last few years, we have had to limit instruction time to finish band by a reasonable hour. Having to choose, we focused on the younger groups at the cost of proper development of our concert band level students. In our new location, we are now able to better distribute time and quality instruction to ALL our groups and are excited to have new instructors to help balance our expertise. In order to refocus our efforts and distribute equitable instruction for all levels, we are going to be increasing the instruction time for concert band, and plan to move to a two day schedule for all band levels by next year. Students new to concert band (coming from intermediate last year) will still need to meet on Thursdays for the additional instruction needed to be properly prepared to participate in concert band. We are also going to be adding Wind Ensemble(s) that will be pulled out during the concert band time slot. The schedule for this semester is as follows:

TUESDAYS

Early Music Program/
Beginner Keyboarding 12:30 – 1:15
Beginner Band 12:30 – 1:30
Intermediate  1:30 – 3:15
Concert Band 1:45 – 3:30

THURSDAYS

Beginner Band 12:30 – 2:30
Intermediate 12:30 – 2:30
Individual/Group Instruction 12:30 – 2:30

Parking and Entrance Info for Band

Here is the information you need concerning where to park and what entrance you should use. You need to be on the Marion Street side of the First Baptist Church (see maps below). There is an entrance with a blue awning, this is the entrance you need to come in through. For the auditions, you can use the parking garage directly across from this entrance on Marion (reference marked on map below), but it must be the 1st or 4th floors, the other floors are for Palmetto Health. Someone will be posted at this Marion St entrance of the church to direct you to the elevator, proceed to the 3rd floor, the rooms we will be using will be directly across from the elevator on the 3rd floor.

Back to Band – Auditions and Meeting Reminder

Last minute details for our first meeting of the year:

Be sure to join us this Thursday, Aug 31, for auditions and meeting for all returning and new students. We are breaking the meeting and audition times up into three groups based on last year’s or previous band experience:

12:30 – 1:30 for new beginner students (no previous band experience)

1:30 – 2:30 for returning intermediate/beginners from last year (typically 1-3 years experience)

2:30 – 3:30 for returning concert band students (if in full concert band last year or comparable experience in another group)

For concert band members, remember that we follow the Audition Requirements set forth by SCBDA, for sake of time we will leave off terms and you can use last year’s or this year’s etude (solo). If you are new to our group and have not followed or learned these in previous years, still come prepared to play the scales you do know from the requirement list (again found HERE), along with any prepared piece you have. If that made even less sense than the first statement, don’t panic, the primary goal is to assess the students playing level and to meet our directors, so please feel free to come with whatever you have that best demonstrates your level of playing.

Intermediate students, come prepared with scales you have learned up to this point and any one prepared piece (can be anything from your Band Method book or any other piece you have worked on).

Beginners will not have had previous experience, so they will primarily be meeting with the director of bands to determine what instrument they may be interested in learning.
